February 8, 2014 My Alter Ego

For the past 5 weeks I have been enjoying an on-line class with called Extreme Composition.  We have one lesson a week and post our results on her blog to which we receive feedback from the instructor as well as from other students. This has been the other side of the coin, taking the elements and principles and pushing them aside, trying to see how much we can push aside and still make the painting hold together. I have learned a lot from this exercise about letting go. The triptych
below is one using the experiments we have tried.

This past week I took a workshop covering composition with non-representational painting.
The week was intense and mind-stretching. It takes a lot to absorb the amount of information that Jane Jones, a very design oriented and talented instructor, shared with us. Jane has taken a lot of time and energy into creating a syllabus and coursework that allows us room to think, play, and explore what it takes to make it our own art.
